More Music Practice
For whatever reason I'm having a lot of fun with my midi keyboard so here's a couple of more songs that I tried to write. Song6 is sounding more intentional and I'm actually kinda happy with how it turned out which is pretty rare for any music I write! Check it out!

I'm still just using OpenMPT to write these. I'm checking out the demo version of Renoise but I often run into the same issue every time with it: I have no instruments for it and I have no idea where to find instruments. I've found a handful on the forums but it's not really anything that feels useful to me. I'm actually just looking for a decent drum kit to use for chiptune sounding stuff and I can't seem to find anything! I don't know if I'm just not looking in the right spot though...

Cool! Love these. :-)

Some instrument recommendations, all which are free:

Famisynth: https://woolyss.com/chipmusic-plugins.php?s=Famisynth

Synth1: http://www.kvraudio.com/product/synth1-by-ichiro-toda

And there are a ton of free 8bit drumkit packs flying around as well! :-)

Thanks! I will dig into these ASAP. I actually haven't been using VSTs at all yet and have just been using samples and openmpt instruments so far :O

I've found pretty useful http://boscaceoil.net/ by Terry Cavanagh. It has a lot of instruments and it's pretty easy to pickup and make something. Also the tutorial is great
And yeah, Song 6 is way better for me than others. I like intense and action music like this. Cool transitions, everything is not blended together (i mean it has noticeable parts, which gives the depth to the song) :)

Yeah, the issue with DAWs is that they need a lot of VSTs to be useful, but I think if you truly enjoy songwriting, then working within limitations can be fun. I'm using FL Studio now which is nice because if you buy the full version, you will get all future versions for free. Like, ANY version, not just updates.

Cubase has been around longer but it's extremely German.

Yeah I guess I'm trying to still understand what I'm looking for. Obviously DAW is something different than just music making software. FL studio seems to be just music making which is all I'm really looking for, a lot of this other stuff seems like extreme overkill.

Now I'm on the endless hunt for VSTs and then trying to hook them up in various programs. I'm playing with Abelton Lite which seems... mostly straight forward.
